A tale of a daring village vet who undertakes a quest to defeat a dragon. On this quest he meets and treats an ogre with an ‘orrible headache’ and a beautiful mermaid with a nasty case of ‘scale-rot’. With both patients the Vet uses a story to distract them from their ailments. In return they help him across the Forest of Fears and the Lake of Lost Souls. When the plucky Vet finally comes face to face with the dreaded Dragon, he is able to save himself by treating the poorly creature and telling him a story. The dragon is impressed and suggests he travels the world healing other magical and mythical creatures, becoming the first Monster Mender. But the Monster Menders have run out of stories and they need help to make up a new one...
