The start of the Hunt can be viewed from The South Lawns between 12 & 12.30pm on Sunday 28th January. (weather permitting)
The sport of hunting with Bloodhounds is known as hunting the clean boot. Unlike a drag hunt which uses an artificial pre-laid scent, Bloodhounds have to work the scent of a human “Quarry”-a fell or marathon runner. These hounds are very affectionate and if they catch the quarry the worst they do is lick them to death.
The hunt is also a farmer-friendly sport as it is a pre-planned route agreed in advance with the farmers and landowners. Read more about the 4 Shire hunt at www.4shires.co.uk
