Talk in the Carriage House hosted by David Adams

Join us on Tuesday 28th February 2023 in the Carriage House for a walk through the life and times of Joseph Paxton, a notable Victorian Gardener, designer of hothouses, and MP. Follow the story of a boy from a lowly position who transformed his life through gardening.

Paxton was a remarkable Victorian, eventually progressing to Head Gardener at Chatsworth before designing the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Responsible for a revolution in glass conservatories, he then went on to become an MP for Coventry and is comparable to Brunel and Stephenson.

Hosting the event will be David Adams, an experienced Thornbridge Estate tour guide, history enthusiast, and specialist on Joseph Paxton. In this hour-long talk, David will share a deeper insight into the life of this prominent Victorian and his link to the Thornbridge Estate.
