The Appeal of a Winter Wedding
There is something magical about a Winter wedding on the Thornbridge Estate
A snowy backdrop, twinkling lights, and roaring fires (all of which we have in abundance at Thornbridge) make for cosy, atmospheric nuptials. Winter weddings allow you to marry in style at a much lower cost, but there are also many more advantages to having a winter wedding in the Peak District…
More choice of venues, dates, and suppliers
Venues and suppliers tend to get booked up pretty quickly during the summer months. Getting married in the months of November to March offer you more choices when it comes to venues, florists, cake makers, and photographers. Not only are they more likely to be available, but because they aren’t as busy they will be able to give you their undivided attention! The same applies to local accommodation and the higher likelihood of superior rooms being available closer to your venue at an off-peak price.
When it is too hot
Ok, so we rarely have this problem with British Summers, however, there have been many a bride and groom (and guest) who have sweltered in their Sunday best under the August sun. Not only do the cooler months offer a more comfortable temperature but you can get creative with faux fur, bolero jackets, and heavier materials making your wedding day different from the norm.
One of many weddings…
Summer is a busy time for weddings and there is always the possibility that some of your guests will have a choice to make between you and another couple tying the knot on the same day. Winter weddings reduce the risk of double-booking your guests, ensuring you have everyone you want on your special day.
Stunning snowy backdrops
As already mentioned, cold weather doesn’t have to be a negative! The snowy backdrop of our formal gardens can make for a magical alternative for your wedding photography.
Capitalise on the festive season
Using existing Christmas decor at your venue makes sense financially and logistically. Ideally, your venue has tastefully decked the halls with boughs of holly, leaving you with less to worry about. Choose a venue like Thornbridge Hall and gather round open fires in the Great Hall for a mulled wine-drinks reception. Serve Christmas cake in the Carriage House courtyard, and provide outside seating with cosy blankets, fire pits, and sparklers. As guests wind down for the holidays they will be in the perfect frame of mind for celebrating with you and letting their hair down at your nuptials. You could even leave them a stocking as a wedding favour.
Winter wedding colours
Go for an all-white winter wonderland or use a moody palette of berry-toned ruby and wine. This gothic-style wedding we had at Thornbridge Estate back in November 2022 showcases a winter palette beautifully.
