The Thornbridge Olympics

On Sunday, August 25th, Thornbridge Estate was the place to be for an Olympics like no other! They hosted their “never ordinary” Thornbridge Olympics, where competitors took part in the Duck Egg and Spoon race, got stuck in Duck in the Mud and took aim in the wildly popular Chuck a Duck contest. With over 500 visitors, joining the fun, it was a quacking success with laughter and smiles all round.

As ever scrummy food was high on the agenda with local suppliers feeding the “athletes” and spectators. The Thornbridge Smallholding served up mouthwatering pulled pork cobs, freshly ground coffee was from DeLICious co, Straight from the Horse's Mouth delighted with juicy burgers and hotdogs and Fire and Fizz wowed with their delicious wood-fired pizzas. For the grand finale, the Derbyshire Ice Cream Bike was on hand to cool things down with some scrumptious ice cream! Oh and there was beer… lots of beer.

Even the little bit of rain couldn't dampen the  spirits! With bouncy castles, penalty shootouts, bungee trampolines, and inflatable darts, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

We hear that there are more thrills and chills planned as they gear up for their Halloween festivities at Thornbridge. It’s going to be a frightfully good time - but as ever, suitable for dogs and the little ones!

The Thornbridge team want to say a big thank you to everyone who joined in the fun. They have been inspired by the success to plan even more fun days out in the future. Ideas always welcomed. They would especially like to hear from more local charities/voluntary groups  who could use these gatherings to raise funds for their organisations.
